Light a Path is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Asheville, NC, founded on the knowledge that connection creates resilience. Light a Path does this by bringing yoga, meditation, and fitness activities to youth, incarcerated persons, unhoused persons, low income community residents, those recovering from addiction, as well as those in transition. By engaging in these modalities, the ultimate connection is facilitated to find the inner reserves of resilience, peace and wellness that each one of us holds. In 2018, LAP’s 50+ volunteers offered 30 weekly classes, creating 8,000+ opportunities for individuals seeking wellness and connection.

Light a Path is thrilled to partner with Asheville Yoga Center to offer a weekend-long professional development training for yoga teachers, yoga therapists and fitness professionals interested in learning the “Light a Path Method” to create impactful change in their communities. This is a foundational course where participants will be trained in trauma-informed instruction and concepts of power, privilege and oppression. Participants will be introduced to methods and techniques for sharing wellness modalities, including yoga and meditation with underserved populations. Additionally, participants will learn responsible bystander intervention, the ethics of self-care and be introduced to the logistics of establishing service-based programs. They will leave this training with an understanding of everything one needs to create resilience through connection in their community. All net proceeds of this training go directly to Light a Path.

Sierra Hollister, BA, E-RYT 500 As the founder of Light a Path, Sierra brings a wealth of inspiration, knowledge and experience. Yoga & the Subtle Body

What is Sūkṣma-śarīra, or the subtle body? Like the word yoga, the subtle body has several related but distinct meanings.

Asheville Yoga Center

February 7-9, 2020

300-hour YA credit / All Levels Welcome

Save $50 if you register by December 27, 2019 - $300 with Early Bird Discount, $350 after December 27th

Friday 9:00 am - 12:30 pm / 2:00 - 5:00 pm

Saturday 9:00 am - 12:30 pm / 2:00 - 5:00 pm

Sunday 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

This weekend training will be a deep dive into the mystical and esoteric anatomy of yoga itself. Yoga, from its inception, has always been a way to reach states of bliss, Samadhi, and nirvana. Separating yoga from the subtle body means losing the opportunity and understanding of the deeper intention of yoga, as well as the ability to experience yoga fully.

You will learn about all types of energetic, yogic, mystical, metaphysical (or esoteric) anatomy, structures and vortices. You will learn the pathways that are not seen with the physical eyes but still remain potent factors in the practice of yoga as well as the experience of being human. The three-body philosophy from the Vedas, the five Vayus and the path of prana, the nadis, chakras, koshas, light bodies and marma will all be taught and experienced. This training will offer the ability to understand these systems as interrelated and cohesive, rather than isolated systems. The weekend will include physical practice, pranayama and meditation to ground your understanding.

Whether you are a yoga teacher or a yoga student, you will learn the hidden systems that will deepen your practice and give you the ability to deepen and demystify the practice of yoga for others.

Curriculum will include:

  • History and source of the Subtle Body Understanding

  • The 5 Vayus

  • Prana and how it travels through the body

  • Nadis, Channels and Meridians

  • Marma

  • The 5 Koshas and the 10 Light Bodies

Join Sierra for The Moon Path: The Sacred Teachings of Kundalini Yoga for Women. Sierra’s teacher, Yogi Bhajan, was incredibly inspired by the strength and grace of women and believed that the elevation of the status of women, worldwide, was a key step to peace and harmony for our Earth. This class is exclusive to women students.

For 29 years, Yogi Bhajan called women around the globe to join him for summers in New Mexico. He shared unique Kundalini Kriyas and meditations specifically for women and over the course of his life, devoted more hours to women’s teachings than to any other subject.

Woman is Shakti, the embodiment of the creative power of the universe. This power has been worshipped for centuries in the form of various goddesses. Every woman has that divine goddess power in her own being, waiting to be recognized. This weekend is both training and ritual, education and renewal.
